I

love mint. I have a large ceramic tea cup on my deck containing several varieties of mint that I use on a regular basis. Fresh mint has such a refreshing scent and taste, and I love picking it and using it in my daily iced matcha latte, as well as a garnish on certain cooked dishes.

Mint is commonly used in many summer recipes in both food and drink. In addition to tasting and smelling wonderful, mint is extremely nutritious and good for your body. According to OrganicFacts.net, some of the health benefits of mint are that it can aid in digestion and weight loss. Additionally, mint may relieve nausea, headaches, asthma, depression, memory loss, and allergies.

As you can tell, mint is a wonderful herb, but what many people don’t realize is that it is also extremely good for your skin when applied topically. Mint refreshes the skin, can aid in reducing the appearance of dark circles under eyes, and can help keep acne at bay. It is also antipruritic, which means it can relieve or prevent itching.

This DIY recipe is really easy to make, as there are the only three ingredients. Cucumbers have similar refreshing properties to mint as well as toning properties, so together they are a wonderful facial mask combination! The addition of oats also brings a moisturizing element to this mask. And oats can also soothe irritated skin.

Ingredients:

½ cup cucumber (sliced, none of the watery center)
½ cup gluten-free oats
¼ cup fresh mint
2-4 tbsp water

(Note: This makes enough for 2 face masks. If you only want to make enough for 1, half the ingredients.)

Directions:

Blend the cucumber, mint, oats, and 2 tbsp of water until the mixture is smooth, adding additional water as needed to aid in blending. For an added cooling effect, refrigerate the mixture for 5-10 mins prior to use (optional). Apply on your face, including under the eyes, being careful not to get it in your eyes, and leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse the mask off with cold water, and gently pat your face dry. Your face should be left feeling toned and refreshed!

If used regularly, the mask can aid in keeping skin hydrated, reduce dark circles under eyes, keep acne at bay, and also lighten your skin to reduce the appearance of acne scars.
